our challenge

Education is a human right

In the Federated States of Micronesia, a significant portion of the generations under 40 lack literacy and the skills necessary to succeed in their beautiful environment, revealing a need for both formal and community-situated education.

The islands lack qualified teachers and funds to operate their schools. Safe access to schools is limited by the uncertainties of boat transportation between islands and jungle trails connecting villages.

Our work

Lisa,
a second grader,
aspires to be a nurse while her brother MG dreams of becoming a physician.

Our focus is on providing opportunities for children and their families, taking into account the challenges they face due to migration. We empower local schools with resources, infrastructure, and qualified teachers. A holistic approach is needed to sustainably promote education in these island communities.

Relate – inspire – collaborate

How we transform education

Island communities often face severe poverty, health issues like malnutrition and diabetes, unstable families, and poor infrastructure. Simply bringing in teachers isn’t enough.

We relate to local challenges, inspire lasting educational change and collaborate to build a supportive learning environment.

Reliable Funding

To deliver quality education, schools must have steady and sufficient financial support. From paying teachers and assistants to providing essential materials, food, clean water, and technology, every aspect of school operations depends on reliable funding. That’s why RIC invests all education-focused donations directly into school operations, ensuring every island child has access to a safe and supportive learning environment.

Modern Infrastructure

Safe and accessible infrastructure is a key to helping children attend school regularly and safely. In many island communities, students face dangerous journeys through jungles and across water. By working with local and international partners, we improve transportation and build accessible schools, reducing risks so children can focus on learning instead of just getting there.

Qualified Teachers

Educating island children takes more than a teaching degree—educators need intercultural understanding and local support to succeed in island communities. RIC recruits qualified teachers and provides housing, resources, and training to help them connect with families, earn trust, and deliver meaningful education.

Research-Driven Approach

Our team includes experts in anthropology and intercultural studies, with several members conducting research directly within the communities we serve. This deep, place-based knowledge grounds our work in evidence and ensures our approach is both culturally informed and scientifically sound.

“I can be a blessing…”

Hear people from the island communities and members of our team share their experiences.

I enjoy working with RIC at Philadelphia Christian School – because I can be part of being a blessing to our children.

Every day, I am teaching first and second graders, and I hope there is going to be someone who will […] discover how wonderful teaching these kids is.

When I was a child, I experienced first-hand how investing in someone’s education can change their life. It is my sincere hope to make that same impact on the children of Chuuk.

WHERE our hearts are

Expressing our faith through love

We believe it is essential for the Christian faith in Jesus Christ to express itself through love, especially where it is needed most. Our heartfelt desire is to support children in Micronesia who, for various reasons, lack access to quality education and training opportunities.

We accomplish this by establishing Christian schools, recruiting and supporting teachers, and offering additional training for both local and international educators to help them share God’s love in their daily lives and interactions within the communities.
