Currently, fifty students are enrolled at the Philadelphia Christian School in Chukienu. This high number is undoubtedly due in large part to the groundwork laid by the team led by Elizabeth Rauchholz. Together with Matanya and Johannes, two volunteers from Germany, and Adreen, they visited families in the surrounding villages and encouraged parents to send their children to school.
Nonetheless, some students still attend irregularly, which presents a significant challenge—as these are often the students who receive lower grades. The teaching team at the school is actively considering how this situation can be improved. “We’re not quite sure yet how we’re going to manage it,” Elizabeth admits.
Despite these challenges, the teachers at the Philadelphia Christian School were able to submit the first midterm reports and student evaluations to the Department of Education (DOE) in Chuuk, and they received positive feedback for their efforts.
Naturally, these midterm reports were celebrated, and each student received a blanket as a token of recognition for their academic efforts—generously donated by the Korean community in Guam.
